UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, provides emergency and on-going relief services and supplies in areas of need all over the world after natural disasters and damages from human conflict. There are many ways to support the work which UMCOR does, from contributions designated to help with specific disasters to collections of supplies for relief work and even hands-on participation in emergency relief operations. When you donate to UMCOR, you are sending 100% of your donation directly to the area of need, as the global church has already covered the administrative costs associated with serving that need.
Every United Methodist Church is asked to contribute via “Shared Ministry” to support a variety of administrative costs of the global church, and funds from within that Shared Ministry are used to support the work of UMCOR. So each UM Church is a part of the helping hands which work to bring relief to people in need around the world!
In addition, we conduct special collections such as Blanket Sunday, where persons donate money to purchase a blanket for the UMCOR programs; we do this around Fathers’ Day, and many donate in honor or in memory of special fathers in their lives. A single blanket can mean shelter from the rain or hot sun, a warm wrap, and the comfort of knowing someone cares!
